“God made you short, but who made you quiet?”
We are all perfectly imperfect humans. We have shortcomings here and there, things that are way out of our control, and that sucks. But we also have things we can control, things we can decide on, things we can change. Sitting around blaming the universe for everything is just such a victimistic thing to do.
Yes, you are short, but I bet there is something about you that you can at least have control over, something you have a say in, and you know this. What we do, you and I both, which is sad, by the way, is focus so much on the things and places where we lack that we neglect the things we can actually fix.
Dearest reader, we are all disadvantaged in some ways, but we need to look past those disadvantages and figure out what to do with the advantages we have been handed as well. Because really, we are not handed a bunch of disadvantages without an edge. That is not how it works.
So, you may be short, like Dr. Bailey in today's episode of Grey's Anatomy, but you sure as hell do not have to be a minnow. You can speak up and stand up for yourself. Just like they say, what you lack in height, you can make up for in intellect, confidence, and being vocal.
And this goes beyond height, really. You may not be the most attractive person in the room, the wealthiest, the most connected, or the most naturally gifted, but what about the things you can do? What about the things you can learn, the habits you can build, the skills you can develop, and the decisions you can make? Surely, there is something you can work with.
Now, remember that the short reference is simply a reference. The point is to make the most and the best of what you have been handed, without making excuses for the things you can't change. You may not get to choose all your cards, but you certainly have a say in how you play them.
