“The way we love God should reflect in the way we love people.” ~ X

You can't say you love God and not love people, because God is love.

Our love for people should flow from our love for God. The more we understand how deeply God loves us, the more that love should begin to shape the way we treat the people around us.

And no, I don't mean that loving people means you'll always like them, agree with them, or enjoy being around them. People can be difficult, they can hurt us, disappoint us, misunderstand us, and sometimes, they can make loving them feel like serious spiritual warfare. 

But love isn't always a feeling, I like to say, love is a decision, we get to decide to love with intentions,
It's giving people grace because you remember how much grace you've received.

It's seeing someone else's humanity even when they're getting on your last nerve.

Jesus didn't tell us to love only the people who love us back. He told us to love our neighbours, love our enemies, forgive, show mercy, and treat people the way we would want to be treated. Because our relationship with God was never meant to stop with us.

If we have experienced God's love, it should spill over into the way we love others.

Sometimes, I think we are so focused on showing God that we love Him through our prayers, worship, church attendance, and service that we forget that one of the clearest ways we can demonstrate our love for Him is through the way we treat His creation.

What does it mean to say “I love God” if I am constantly cruel to the people He created?

Dearest reader, the love we have received from God should change us. It should make us softer, kinder, more patient, more forgiving, more compassionate.

So maybe one question we should ask ourselves is not just, “Do I love God?”

But also, “Does the way I love people reflect the God I say I love?”

TEAM WORK

It can be quite frustrating when a collective effort results in only one person receiving all the praise. Even if my contribution is just 1%, it shouldn’t be overlooked. You never know how these small efforts can make a significant difference. My bubugaga is back from school, and today we did a lot of tidying up. It’s amazing how I suddenly find the energy to work when she's around, despite my usual laziness. After completing so much work, we took a break—we were honestly worn out. Fast forward to the end of the day: everyone applauded her for a job well done, as though it was solely her effort. It felt off because I felt I deserved some recognition too—it was teamwork, after all. So, the point is, you never know how hurtful it can be when someone's effort goes unacknowledged. "NOT ADMITTED"

She clicks on the Whatsapp group chat,  Yet another "Congratulations, you've been admitted", with her heart heavy, she angrily leaves the group, minimize out of Whatsapp. There she is patiently waiting for chrome to load her admission status, this is the third time today she's logging into her jamb caps.  Her eyes almost eager with hope, she muttered under her breath, "God please" The network server makes matter worst by going sluggishly as she clickes "Regular admission status" she closes her eyes, hoping against hope, praying fervently, that this time it'd be different.  But it's not, because as she opens her eyes slowly, she's greeted with an arrogantly boldly written, "NOT ADMITTED", screaming at her.
