I ENVY FOOTBALL.

I'm hardly a football fan, but one thing I deeply admire about the sport is the passion it inspires.

The World Cup is currently ongoing, and you don't even have to watch a match to feel the tension. It's almost electrifying. I remember coming online and seeing that Egypt was leading. Omor I knew it wasn't going to be easy for Messi fans. I was still in transit then, but by the time I got home, I was shocked to discover that Argentina hadn't just equalised, they had gone on to win.

Everywhere was alive. One sport having that much impact is astonishing because, damn. On the roads, in the streets, in viewing centres, everywhere possible, people were shouting, celebrating, and basking in the joy of the victory.

That's what I envy about football.

That's what draws me to it, the raw passion, the unfiltered excitement, the unwavering loyalty. Someone even said they didn't need to eat anymore that night because Messi had already satisfied them. Another joked that if heaven could watch football, the angels would be celebrating too.

It got me thinking about the gospel.

What if believers were even half as passionate about Christ as the average football fan is about their club or favourite player? Imagine how far and wide the gospel would spread.

Come to think of it, I never used to watch or enjoy football until a certain friend who was completely obsessed with it started posting about it every single time. His passion was so contagious that, at some point, I found myself supporting a club.

Dearest reader, maybe the greatest sermon isn't always standing behind a pulpit asking people to give their lives to Christ. Maybe it's simply loving Christ so boldly, so passionately, and so fiercely that your life becomes impossible to ignore. Maybe your passion becomes the invitation.

You needed to see the streets of Hall 4 after the match. Boys and girls running up and down, screaming, laughing, celebrating like they had just won the lottery. That was the moment it hit me.

I really do envy football.

Not because of the game itself, but because of the passion it awakens.

What if we became just as visibly passionate about Christ as we are about the things and people we love?
