"There's a level of kindness you experience and you just know you have to be kinder." X
I've had a day today.
From barely getting enough sleep last night, to leaving school and heading all the way to the Sapele Road axis in Benin just to rectify an issue that turned out to be far more stressful than I expected. Somehow, I still made it back to school in four hours for a practical session that almost dragged till forever, and then I got drenched on my way home.
There was no emotion I didn't feel today. Fear, sadness, anger, hunger, frustration,, you name it, I felt it. But in the middle of all that, I also experienced a level of favour and kindness that genuinely melted my heart.
It all started in a UNIBEN shuttle on my way to Ring Road. My phone was on one percent, pure tragedy. My power bank had conveniently chosen today to stop working. I didn't know what to do because I needed my phone for what I was going out to do.
I swallowed my very large pride and asked for help. A pretty girl who was sitting a few seats away offered to let me charge my phone with her power bank until we got down. I was overwhelmed with gratitude because, omo, she didn't have to. Before her, I had asked about three people who all said no.
Later in the day, after being told to leave one office and go all the way to the High Court for another document, I entered a cab. A lady beside me was pleading with the driver to accept a transfer because she didn't have cash. Since I had cash, I offered to pay on her behalf while she transferred the money to me.
What happened next shocked me.
She insisted on paying for my own transport too, then offered to take me to the High Court herself so I wouldn't get lost, I was honestly astonished.
Someone had shown me kindness earlier that day, so helping another person felt natural. I didn't expect anything in return, but somehow that simple act came back to bless me.
And to crown it all, I got a thoughtful pre birthday gift at the end of the day.
Yes, today was stressful, very stressful, but that's one part of the coin. But did I experience favour Absolutely.
I think that's my lesson today. Kindness has a beautiful way of travelling. Sometimes you're the one receiving it, sometimes you're the one giving it, and sometimes the kindness you extend opens doors you never expected. The world can be exhausting, but there are still good people in it.
Dearest reader, I hope that this week, you experience unexpected favour. I hope someone makes your burden a little lighter, and I hope you become that person for someone else too. Kindness costs less than we think, but it can change someone's entire day.
