...
There is this tingling feeling in my chest whenever I read African literature.
It is sooo good, like I could explode from sheer joy. It is beautiful, and one of the most fascinating things I have ever discovered. I honestly cannot think of anything else that makes me feel this way.
But the thing about reading is this. You can be completely spellbound by the pages, flipping from one to the next like forever, fully immersed. Then the very moment you get distracted, mehn, the book loses its charm. And before you can get back to that initial feeling, it takes about three page flips or even more.
For instance, I am soul deep into a book, swimming in an ocean of happiness. Then I have to run a quick errand. I come back almost immediately, pick up the book again, and it is not the same. It takes a while to get excited about the story again, to fully settle back into that world.
And this is one of the magical things I love about books. It is fragile, delicate, and beautiful.
Anyways, I am currently reading Broken by Fatima Bala for the second, if not the third time. My sister made a comment about something I had totally missed the last time I read it, and I had to reread it properly so I could argue well. Lol.
Here is another thing I absolutely love about good books. It is the idea of going back to them and discovering new lines, new sentences you missed or did not pay attention to the first time. It feels like uncovering hidden treasures. It is pure magic.
I get asked a lot, why do you reread your favourite books, do you not get bored of them? No, I do not. I reread them because there is something special about revisiting a thing with fresh eyes. In the rush to know how it ends, it is very easy to miss the beauty along the way.
Dearest reader, my fellow readers, I hope you find that one book that makes your chest tingle, the kind that pulls you into its world and refuses to let you go easily. And when you do, I hope you read it slowly, then read it again, and again, allowing it to meet you differently each time.
Okay byeee.
