Hello there!

I’ve got a little something to share, a story if I may add.

If you know me, you’ll know I’m a jack of all trades. I hardly ever master the billions of skills I pick up, yet I’m constantly learning something new each day, jumping into new niches and exploring new options.

That’s me. The only tech skill I’m still not knowledgeable in is coding. I have explored almost everything else.

So, on today’s episode of skill acquisition, I found myself in this class. It was a paid class, but I was privileged to get a coupon access. To qualify for the real training, you had to complete a task. We were asked to create a presentation slide on anything of our choice.

There was a deadline, I was extremely busy, and still, somehow, I pulled it off. I submitted a few hours late, but I got in. During the Google Meet class today, you wouldn’t believe what happened.

The instructor mentioned a particular presentation she really liked out of all the submissions, and the description matched exactly what I designed. I was thrilled. I literally screamed and did my happy dance for a whole minute.

It felt amazing. The joy of saying, “Oh yes, I created that presentation.”

But here’s what stood out to me. This was a paid class that was supposed to teach us a skill, yet before we even began, we were given a task that required a high level of competence. Someone with zero tech skill would never have been able to pull it off.

It made me realize that we are not all starting from the same point. Yes, we are all new to the course, but we all come in with different capacities and different kinds of preparation.

This class is going to be a great time for me because I genuinely enjoy exploring tech tools. My half knowledge of certain tools is already an advantage.

Someone might say, “Ahh she’s lucky.” Lucky where? Lucky how? I didn’t stumble into my expertise. I intentionally hopped on opportunities to learn.

Dearest reader, if someone stands out in a group, it simply means they possess an advantage the rest may not have. We are not all on the same level, and we are not all starting on the same footing. That is something to always remember.

We often forget that our journey is uniquely ours. Learn all you can, every chance you get. That skill you overlook today may become your advantage tomorrow.

P. S. _I’m still gloating from the goosebumps of having my work not just noticed, but acknowledged._
