Thin line between diplomacy and deception

"Diplomacy without evaluated truth is just weak positive confession, and that is evil", X

I have always been big on this saying, “If you must air your opinion about something sensitive, learn diplomacy.”

But today, I encountered a school of thought that made me think differently.

Let me straighten this out. Is there a line between diplomacy and deceit? Because the moment you start hiding truth in the name of diplomacy, it becomes manipulation.

Let me use an instance. Recently, I wrote this poem completely in pidgin English. It is not my usual style and I was breaking character, so before posting, I sent it to a few friends. Now, trust Nomzy to hype me. After all the hype, I was just waiting to hear what she honestly thought after evaluating it.

Her words, “It feels a bit stiff, like ajebota trying to speak pidgin,” were her diplomatic way of saying the poem was good, but the pidgin did not slap so well.

Did you see that?
Evaluated truth + Diplomacy = good.
Falsehood + Diplomacy = evil.

Dearest reader, even as we learn diplomacy, let us also learn to say things as they are and not try to be falsely diplomatic.

My boss would often joke that girls can lie. They will post their ugly friends and caption it “what a beauty,” instead of choosing a softer, more truthful compliment.

Taking this funny instance into consideration, what the said poster did was weak positive confession. Lol.

P.S. mind you, I am not saying anybody is ugly. I only used that reference to explain better.

So, as we learn to be diplomatic, let us also learn to tell the truth kindly but clearly.

Merry Weekend
