How are you seeing things?

So, Sunday morning I’m headed to church, running late because I woke up pretty late. Between arranging my hair, checking if my lip combo is done properly, and race walking (it’s when you walk so fast it’s almost like you’re running), I’m quietly praying for a bike to turn up and save the day.

Well, as it is known, bikes are scarce on Sunday mornings, so there’s usually a number of us calling at one bike at a time. As I head to the junction, I see a bike and immediately start waving and calling at it. For a moment, it feels like he sees me and drives toward me, only for someone else closer to the junction to call him, and boom, oga goes on to carry that person.

I was infuriated and upset because I called first for crying out loud. Why carry her and not me?

Well, I later found a bike about five to six minutes later (when I had walked to the junction). By the time I got to church, I was calmer and saw that the first bike man wasn’t all that bad.

Yes, the guy who didn’t carry me wasn’t being wicked at all. He had chosen the other person over me simply because of positioning. While she was closer to the junction, I was far inside the street. And for a street with large potholes usually filled with water, one wouldn’t love to go too far inside.

Dearest reader, where are you standing? We are often too quick to see unfairness, favoritism, or evil done against us, but we rarely ask ourselves why.

Many times, the person who gets chosen over us isn’t necessarily special. They may just be better positioned or doing something we are not. It’s that simple.

Figure out the missing jigsaw piece.
