Rock Bottom Basement (RBB)
"He that is down need fear no fall." ~ John Bunyan
Do i agree? Not exactly!
Like Kingaths would fondly say, "sometimes rock bottom has a basement." You think you cannot fall below the ground, but life has a way of proving otherwise..
Recently, I’ve been rereading Chimamanda’s books. It’s a kind of therapy for me. Notes on Grief is one I had read before, but this time it hit differently.
There was this chapter Chimamanda talked about something she calls the worst day of one’s life — that moment when you hit the height of rock bottom. She said, "I wish nothing else tops it."
That made me think. What are the possibilities of something else topping worst day? I have this theory that both the best and the worst of life are still ahead of us. It may sound strange, but even when things feel unbearably bad, it can always get worse right?
Yes, sometimes rock bottom has a basement. You reach the bottom thinking it can’t go any lower, but then you find out it can.
Dearest reader, here’s the point: when tragedy comes, try to thank God that it is not worse than it is. Inside every bad situation lies the possibility of something even heavier.
And while you are taking a nap at the bottom, remember that too much of it can put you in trouble. That’s why King Solomon said in Proverbs, "A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man."
So yes, sometimes rock bottom has a basement, but remember too, there is also an upstairs. Just as it can get worse, it can also get better.
