Embracing the Ugly Sides of You
"In order to love who you are, you cannot hate the experiences that shaped you" ~ X
Because we like to skip terms and conditions, we often fall into the trap of loathing our experiences while still wondering why we struggle to love ourselves.
Growing up, one thing I battled with was the art of self love. The harder I tried, the more I felt like I couldn’t, because deep down I felt damaged. Strange, right? But the truth is we all have ugly experiences, and when we don’t embrace those uglies, we can never truly see how beautifully imperfect we are, how deserving of love we remain, regardless of it all.
If you went through a season of waiting, heartache, depression, or suffering that seemed to break you, but eventually shaped you into who you are today, embrace it. Acknowledge it. Do not resent it, no matter how unfair it seemed at the time.
Dearest reader, we are all perfectly imperfect humans. We must acknowledge the journey that brought us here, embrace the scars, because therein lies the beauty of it all.
Struggling with self love?
Maybe it’s time to start by embracing the ugly sides of you, the traumas too.
