THE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTOR

"Your environment can be stronger than your intentions." — X

Behind every action is an intention, and the intention often carries more weight than the action itself. Most times, intention governs action. Yet, there are moments when our intentions and actions are not aligned.

Like the Apostle Paul said, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do, this I keep on doing."

It can be incredibly frustrating when our actions contradict our intentions. I want to do good, but I find myself drowning in a sea of bad. I feel it too, I’m sure you do sometimes.

Ever wondered why?

Well, my coach would say it's a situation where your head is disconnected from your heart. You say something, but you don’t really mean it. It’s like head knowledge versus heart knowledge. Head knowledge is just saying things without depth or conviction, while heart knowledge aligns your being with what you say.

There are several factors that make our actions and intentions incompatible, and one of them is environment. Our actions and inactions are often heavily influenced by our surroundings. Whether we like it or not, our environment is one of our greatest influences.

So, I may intend to do something meaningful, but growing up or living in an environment that doesn’t support that intent can easily sabotage it.

Dearest reader, it’s not just about having good intentions. You must also be mindful of the factors that can override those intentions. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll begin to understand why you often do the very things you didn’t intend to.

Don’t you think so?
