Mental Accent X Metanoia
I learned two new words today: "Mental Assent and Metanoia" which i find quite interesting.
You know how it's incredibly challenging to commit to live by the virtues which we all know are so obviously beneficial, yh?
This proves there is a big difference between knowing something intellectually, versus knowing through rigorous practice and experience.
That's the difference between the two words. While Mental assent suggest mere head knowledge, believing in something you don’t practice, knowing and accepting something is good yet not exactly following. It's not ignorance, rather a surface level knowing.
On the other hand, Metanoia is about a total shift in perspective, a repentance that touches not just how you think, but also how you live. It is the kind of change that transforms someone’s entire outlook and redirects their life.
Metanoia for me is like the greek reflection of the Hebrew word Teshuvah. A repentance that's beyond mere repentance.
So the idea is;
Mental Accent: Head knowledge
Metanoia : Heart knowledge
Dearest reader, which one do you practice? Do you practice the things you know are right for you or you just know they are right and leave them at that?
