CHRONICLES OF LADY AVA: Design Saga
Ava would say the one reason she cannot do graphic designs is because she doesn't have the patience, and true to her words, graphics is a lot. But she does Canva graphic designs; it's easier and more convenient. You just move elements and change a thing or two.
Madam was still managing her small Canva hustle until the day she gave up. She had spent over 7 hours working on a particular design. Trust me, she was set to blow this client out of his mind. But after all that effort, instead of praises, she got unexpected feedback.
Logically, we both know the client had a point. Emotionally, madam flared up, did the dramatic thing of deleting the app, and mentally gave up on being a techie.
Watching her, both depressed and furious, I was trying to piece things together, the excited Ava while she was creating, frustrated over the fonts not giving what they should give, yet still happy. And then, all of a sudden, a deflated Ava, like someone stripped of life itself. What happened?
Expectations did!
I realized that the smile on her face as she designed wasn't only because she enjoyed it, but because she was anticipating a certain level of praise. And void of that, her mood turned cloudy.
Dearest reader, that’s what happens when we tie our happiness to things and people. When things go south, how do you handle it?
My coach would say, “You don’t do to get.” The idea is that it’s wrong to do things solely because you expect something in return.
