A Wake Up Call From Mindlessness
So I nearly misplaced my phone today. Mehn! My heart is still pounding from how scary it was.
Funny story. I went with my friend to the market this evening to get just one simple thing. After visiting two shops, we finally bought what we came for and quickly boarded a bike home. The bike dropped me at my street junction and carried her further to her place.
Upon alighting, I reached into my bag in search of my phone (you know that habit of eagerly checking your phone after not using it for a while). At first I thought I couldn’t find it because my tote bag is deep, and it is usually difficult to find anything inside, especially when it is late.
I gave up and continued walking home, but I kept feeling uneasy. So I stopped at a nearby store with bright light and poured out all the contents of my bag. Lo and behold, my phone was nowhere to be found!
At that moment, I stayed calm, thinking I had probably left it in my friend’s bag. I was only upset about the extra transport I’d waste going to her place and back. Since I knew her number offhand, I begged a random stranger to let me call her with his phone. She picked up and told me my phone wasn’t with her. Boom! I had a panic attack. I could hardly breathe.
Long story short, I went back to the second store we had entered and found my phone sitting on the shelf. The trader said, “You get luck say customer never enter since you left.” And that was it.
Dearest reader, with the kind of day I had, omor! I am more than grateful to have found my phone, despite my carelessness.
One thing stood out for me: when your heart is in your hands, any distance feels very far. I remember how that ride to the market suddenly felt like forever. Truly, such a wake-up call from mindlessness.
