The Thing About Patience
“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” — Proverbs 16:32
You know that feeling when you're waiting for something, and you're tempted to just lose it? Patience is tough in those moments. It's not just about standing still; it's choosing to stay calm when everything around you is screaming for a reaction.
As a society, I honestly think we all need to be sat down and taught patience, the art and science of waiting. We want things to happen instantly, like magic. We want to skip the terms and conditions, jump to the rewards, chase the highs, and forget what truly matters. It’s like we crave rocket science results with microwave timing.
A month ago, I noticed a hen had made herself comfortable in our flower pot. At first, I thought she was just resting, but days passed and she remained. Eventually, I realized she was hatching her eggs. I became fascinated by how still she was, how quietly she endured, day and night, rain and shine. And after a few weeks, her patience paid off, the little chicks hatched.
Dearest reader, there is quiet power in waiting. So today, I sincerely urge you to choose patience over violence, over irritation, and over haste. Choose self-control over trying to move mountains or save the world in one sweep. Sometimes, the real strength is in being still.
Remember, mastery over oneself is the root of all lasting results.
