DO YOU REALLY NOT GIVE A F*CK?
I feel like one of the greatest forms of hypocrisy we wear is acting like we don’t care, like we aren’t bothered by what people think of us, say to us, or even say about us.
I believe a large number of us do. We care so much, so deeply, that it leads us to form a mask of nonchalance or indifference. I read somewhere that the people who act like they don’t care are often the ones who care the most.
What’s so taboo about accepting that you’re hurt? That you’re scared of what others might say? That you care about other people’s opinions?
While reading the book Dreams Count, one thing that fascinated me about the character "Zikora" was how deeply she cared about people’s opinions. And even though we’re often advised to not give a fck, isn’t it wiser to first examine the things you absolutely do give a fck about?
Zikora cared about being the subject of gossip. She worried about not finding a partner. She was seriously frightened by the idea of disappointing her mom. The honest way the book portrayed her feelings made me realize that many of us are like Zikora. We’re frightened by reality. In fact, we give a f*ck die, lol.
And that’s totally fine and absolutely valid!
So, dearest reader, instead of shoving down that fear, anxiety, and hurt, pretending not to care or forming indifference, examine it, question it, and come to peace with it. Only then will you truly be okay.
Moreover, there are things you should, as a matter of fact, give a zillion f*cks about. In fact, the day you stop giving a damn about anything is the day you begin to die.
Therefore, choose today what you want to care about.
