Reality vs Idea



Recently, I took a video editing course. It was fun, and I learned new editing tricks and concepts. But then I had to implement them. So yesterday, I recorded one of my written poems and decided to singlehandedly edit it into something worthy of posting on Instagram.

My dear! The next time you see a video editor, please give them a thumbs up. Let’s even leave the editing part first, there was the recording! I wrote this poem, but my facial expressions were giving all the wrong vibes. After shooting over 20 videos, I finally decided to edit one.

I did the basic edits. It was stressful but going well. Then boom, I got to the part where I needed a soothing background sound. I searched and searched. It was so frustrating. Nothing was working. I gave up a million and one times.

Dearest reader, I won’t lie to you. Till now, I haven’t completed editing the video (I'll share it once I’m done), and it’s not even up to one minute long.

This experience has made me appreciate art more. There are parts of the video that are imperfect, and while I know the theoretical way to fix them, the practical side? I don’t have it. I fitten’t cannot!

Remember, things are never how they seem. The reality of something can be very different from the idea of it. So imagine me, after that course, going around calling myself a video editor just because I sat through a few classes. Wouldn’t that be an epic fail?

"How well do you know the things you claim to know? Do you understand the reality of things, or are you just caught up in the idea of them?"

It can be quite frustrating when a collective effort results in only one person receiving all the praise. Even if my contribution is just 1%, it shouldn’t be overlooked. You never know how these small efforts can make a significant difference. My bubugaga is back from school, and today we did a lot of tidying up. It’s amazing how I suddenly find the energy to work when she's around, despite my usual laziness. After completing so much work, we took a break—we were honestly worn out. "NOT ADMITTED"

She clicks on the Whatsapp group chat,  Yet another "Congratulations, you've been admitted", with her heart heavy, she angrily leaves the group, minimize out of Whatsapp. There she is patiently waiting for chrome to load her admission status, this is the third time today she's logging into her jamb caps.  Her eyes almost eager with hope, she muttered under her breath, "God please" The network server makes matter worst by going sluggishly as she clickes "Regular admission status" she closes her eyes, hoping against hope, praying fervently, that this time it'd be different.  But it's not, because as she opens her eyes slowly, she's greeted with an arrogantly boldly written, "NOT ADMITTED", screaming at her.
