Chronicles of Lady Ava: Nothing Just Happens
Ava has this belief that I greatly admire, the belief that nothing just happens. She often says she doesn't believe in coincidence. As a science student, the one fault she finds in science is the idea of the Big Bang theory.
Her argument is that the universe is too precise for anything to simply happen by chance. Life, she says, did not come into existence out of nothingness, but rather through intentional design.
And come to think of it, Ava is right.
There’s no such thing as coincidence. Everything we experience is either divinely orchestrated or a result of our own actions.
Now, here’s why I love, and sometimes envy, this belief: the idea that nothing is a coincidence gives us a deep sense of responsibility for our situation. When we view our experiences as outcomes of our actions, we become more conscious not only of what we do, but also of what we leave undone.
Take me for instance. If I’m having a terrible day, this belief pushes me to take responsibility for it, rather than blame others, or worse, the universe.
Dearest reader, while we may not be 100% responsible for our reality, there’s value in taking ownership. It helps to reflect on the roles we play in the bigger picture. It helps us recognize how our conscious or unconscious actions shape the reality we live in.
In Ava’s words, “Nothing just happens.”
And if it’s happening, then you're involved — one way or another.
