CHRONICLES OF LADY AVA: BARBER SAGA
I had an awful experience at the salon where I usually cut my hair. The barber was being disrespectful, and I called him out on it. To my surprise, he stopped. The irritating remarks and the rest ceased.
A part of me felt like I had disrespected this elderly person, but Ava was not buying it. She said, and I quote, "If an elder decides to be foolish, he must expect to be disrespected."
While we all laughed about it, the line of thought kept echoing in my mind. In society, we have learned to revere the older generation, according them respect even when they display folly. But shouldn't respect be earned?
The crown of elders is experience, and funny enough, experience does not make you wiser. It is evaluated experience you can learn from, not just experience.
Dearest reader, like Ava said, there are some elders who are not worthy of respect because of the way they behave. The idea is to give respect to whom it is due. After all, respect is reciprocal.
