YOUR ROOTS!

Recently, I've been reading this really intense and interesting African novel Born in a House of Glass.

The first thing that struck me about this book was its name. And from the moment I started reading it, it's been like an addictive drug, I simply can't take my eyes off it.

Anyway, as someone who likes to learn from everything she consumes, trust that I had my notepad ready all through the ride (I'm not done yet, sha).

One of the things that has stood out to me so far is family as a determining factor in who we become.

Whether we like it or not, we are largely a product of the place we come from. So, if there's a toxic child, know that it's most likely the result of a toxic family.

And when people act out of character, be humble enough to investigate their roots.

I watched the novel’s character become someone else entirely, and it took just one trip down her origin to understand the why and the how.

Dearest reader, do not sweep your roots under the carpet. They are the very things that make you, you.

Like Marcus Tullius Cicero said:
"To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child."

Grow up! Ask your parents those questions! Get to know more about you.
