NOT JUST WORDS.
"Sometimes people don’t understand the promises they’re making when they make them.” — Hazel Grace Lancaster
Have you ever said yes to something in the haze of excitement, unaware of what it truly entails?
Well, this happens to everyone. We often make promises with little or no understanding of what they mean or what we’re getting into.
But why is that? Why do we make promises we can’t fulfill or commit without fully thinking things through?
It’s because we tend to make promises based on emotions. The thing about emotions is that they are temporary and fleeting. I could be feeling on top of the world and promise you everything, forgetting that I didn’t create the world and am quite small in the grand scheme of things.
I once read that it’s harmful to make decisions when you're either too sad or too happy. As Mr. Pojo would say, “At the height of emotion, a man loses his sense of reasoning.”
That’s why we must make promises, speak, and act when we’re emotionally balanced and rational, so we don’t end up saying empty words and disappointing others.
Dearest reader, understand what you’re getting into before you go neck-deep. Don’t say things just because they feel right in the moment. Always consider the ripple effect of your words, thoughts, and actions.
