''Never Surrender"
Today, I came across a story about a group of soldiers who kept fighting and hiding for 30 years, for a war that had ended long ago.
According to the story, they were given one instruction before going into battle: “Never surrender.” So, even when they saw newsletters spread across cities declaring the end of the war, they thought it was a tactic by the enemy to trick them.
Eventually, most of the soldiers died, and only one man was left, yet he still did not return to his country. He hid in the bush.
At first, I found it crazy. Why go through all that? But when they finally found him and asked why he didn’t return, he said he was instructed not to surrender. Just that simple, single reason. But it was deeper than that.
This man believed in the cause. And because of that belief, he endured 30 years in hiding. To him, it was worth it. He had no regrets.
There's nothing that drives a person more than believing in a cause. The kind of passion and energy that flows from deep trust and belief is truly astonishing.
Dearest reader, life is hard, and it may not get easier. But we are armed with free will to choose our struggles (not all the time, but often). So, choose to fight for what’s worth fighting for. Pick an occupation you love, a job you enjoy, a spouse you're fond of.
It’s a long journey, and passion is the one thing that will keep you going.
