CHRONICLES OF A SICK GIRL: Heres goes some gist!
I won't make the most of my sick season, ke?
One moment I'm taking one injection, the next moment I'm drifting off to wonderland, and before I know it, I'm awake again... That’s been the new routine. Being sick sucks, I'll tell you this for free.
But guess why I haven’t died of boredom during those brief waking hours? Of course, I was hooked on one African literature, because why not?
The book is "Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband?" by Lizzie Damilola. It was a great read, hilarious, fun, and even inspiring.
You most likely haven't read this book, so I'm not here to bore you with the details. However, I’d like to share just one insightful bit.
One of the things that stood out for me in the book was friendship. It may sound cliché, but having the right people around you, especially during tough seasons, can do you a lot of good.
Just like it's said in Proverbs 27:17, "Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other." Your friends are constantly influencing your thoughts, sometimes even directing your path.
Yinka, from my novel, was struggling with intense pressure, the kind that could break anyone. In that mentally unstable and desperate state, almost all her decisions were rash. But her best friend Nana stepped in when it mattered.
It’s how Nana constantly reminded her of who she was, of the things that really mattered, and made sure she got the help she needed.
Dearest reader, do yourself the good of being intentional about the people who sharpen your mind, influence your decisions, and occupy your space. Surround yourself with good people, that’s the point.
Okay bye, it’s time to take the meds.
[Not related, but I’ve been thinking of starting a TikTok where we gist about African literature. Sha tell me what you think.]
