The End Justifies the Means, Ke?
I was listening to one of AFL’s sermons today, and he said something that resonated with him. He talked about how the means (the journey) of waiting on God is far more important than the end (the result).
Come to think of it, it sounds crazy, abi?
But it is true. At the end of the day, the proof that you waited on God is the lifestyle you get. The way the journey shapes and influences your being to remain in Him.
In the words of AFL, “Faith is actually a decision to do it God’s way. It’s not like everything you wait on God for, you can’t get it outside God.”
Keep religiousness at bay and ask yourself, is there anything you are currently trusting God for that you cannot get in another way? Though the other path may not be ideal, it does exist.
Therefore, the essence of waiting on God is not to get aesthetic results or the big things you desire — for example, that car or that house, because there are alternative ways to get them. The true essence of waiting on God is the lifestyle gained and the relationship built with Him in the waiting process.
Dearest reader, it takes faith to decide each day to do it God’s way in a world where alternative options pop up daily. Focus on the lifestyle, the new person your journey with God is shaping you into, rather than the glamorous rewards that will eventually come.
The lifestyle is why the children of Israel had to journey forty years in the wilderness. God had to transform their lifestyle , their culture, mindset, and perspective, from that of slavery to sonship through a journey. And at the end, there was the promised land, the glamorous reward seen by all.
