RESPONSE TEST.
"Servants cannot be corrected by mere words; though they understand, they will not respond."
~ Proverbs 29:19
In trying to understand the verse above, I decided to check out its meaning in Hebrew, and I was blown away.
Here’s what I found: "Even if the servant understands what he is told, he will not act unless there is discipline."
The point here isn't a lack of intelligence, but a lack of motivation to act based on words alone.
Correction (musar) requires not just understanding, but response, and sometimes that demands more than words.
The verse reflects an ancient view of discipline but also speaks deeply to human nature: change often requires more than knowledge; it needs accountability and real-world consequences.
However, it’s different when it comes to sonship.
One key difference between a slave and a son is how they respond.
To be a son means you've come to a point in your relationship with Abba (Rabbi, God, or Master) where you no longer need a push to do what must be done.
A son doesn’t even need to hear the full vision, once he sees it, he runs with it.
This level takes intentional training and maturity to reach.
Now, dearest reader, let’s be sincere:
Are you a son, or a servant?
