Does the "why" not bother you?

I had my head stuck in a book today, it was great, but at some point, the book pissed me off because of a character's refusal to face the truth while dishing it out to everyone he could.

Oga refused to open a letter for 21 years simply because he assumed he knew what it contained and wanted to protect himself from it. He lived 21 years of misery over an assumption.

When you assume, you make a fool of yourself. Assumptions are a 50/50 chance you can either be so right or so wrong, and that’s risky. These are extreme chances, but it won’t kill you to confirm whether you’re right or wrong in your assumption.

So even if you think you know how it’ll go, confirm before acting on that assumption, or it could cost you something valuable.

I'm utterly baffled by people who take things as they come. Like, guy, are you not curious as to why? Things don’t just happen without reason, and without understanding that reason, you'll be tormented by the thought of "What if?"

Dearest reader, how does one assume without doubt? How do people walk away with an assumed understanding of a situation without asking what really is?

Like I always say, things are hardly ever as they seem, that's why there's a mountain beneath an iceberg.
