CHRONICLE OF LADY AVA: INTENTIONALLY BECOMING...

Have you ever been complimented on something you've actually taken time to intentionally work on?

Trust me, it feels absolutely great.

That’s how Ava came running to me, excited, simply because someone (a random stranger) heard her speak at length and told her she gave off a feminine vibe.

It might not make much sense to you that someone would be so thrilled over being called feminine.

But when Ava was younger, she had this thing where she constantly competed with boys, fighting the feminist war in ways that made her lose touch with many of her natural feminine qualities.

As she grew older and gained a broader perspective of what feminism truly entails, she realized she had been doing it all wrong. She didn't need to become a man to be a feminist.

So, she began evolving deliberately — from her dress sense, to the way she walked, even how she sat, and she even made efforts to speak more softly. There was a time we used to joke that Ava spoke like she was always in a fight, the force she used to pronounce words was intense, too intense.

That’s why her joy knew no bounds when someone told her she gave off feminine energy. Madam was literally on cloud nine. After so many years of being called an agbero, her efforts to change, little by little, were finally seen and acknowledged.

Dearest reader, like Ava, there’s probably that one thing you’ve been working on, something you intend to change. Here’s your reminder to keep at it. And if you’re still thinking of starting, here’s your reminder to begin today.

One step, and then another.
A day at a time.
Evolve.
Let go of bad habits by making just one percent effort each day to become the version of yourself you truly want to be.
