The Chronicles of Lady Ava: The Art of Argument
Lady Ava would often say, "Let's agree to disagree," whenever we found ourselves in a tight corner during one of our silly debates.
Ava’s ideology of an argument is simple: to win. However, the true essence of a debate should be to understand things from the other person's perspective.
And this doesn’t necessarily mean agreeing or disagreeing. An argument is not a war or a fight where you must defeat your opponent. Instead, it is an opportunity to learn, to see and understand why the other person thinks the way they do.
An argument is essentially an exchange of ideas, but people like Ava engage in debates solely to win, no matter the topic. She could convince you that the sky is red, and trust me, you'd walk away utterly convinced.
The desire to win often overshadows the essence of the argument. In the long run, Ava suffered a few argument failures, and it hit her hard because, to her, every debate was a battle she had to win.
But of course, she learned quickly: it’s not about being on the defensive all the time. You win every time when you see every debate as a learning opportunity, whether you win or lose.
Dearest reader, the next time you find yourself in an argument, pay close attention to your opponent's line of thought. Keep an open mindset that fosters learning. It shouldn’t be about the desire to win but the desire to grow and learn.
