MERRY VALENTINE

"Romantic love isn't the only kind of love that is beautiful, you know? I mean, friendship literally exists."

I like to think that the essence of Valentine's Day goes beyond lovers' displays. So, it's okay not to spend the day with a romantic partner. After all, Valentine's is about love, and if we take a moment to look around, we'll realize that we are more loved than we know. We actually have people who genuinely care for us.

The pressure to receive a Valentine's gift is something I find hilarious because, in gifting, it's the thought that counts. Any sensible person would appreciate even the smallest of gifts.

It's a one-day event let's not wear ourselves out over something so fleeting. If you didn't get a gift today, remember that you have the gift of life. Just think about how expensive oxygen and good health are. If you didn't have a lover to spend the day with, remember that you have friendships and that the love of God is the greatest love you'll ever have.

Dearest reader, the grandest of gestures often lie in the little things that count. Leave the "God when" mindset behind and appreciate the love and care you already have in your life. At the end of the day, the essence of Valentine's is exchanging gifts with loved ones. The focus shouldn't be on what you can get from others but on what you can give, no matter how small.
