Common Sense Isn’t So Common

I have this habit of waiting for my phone to get really low before charging it, knowing fully well that once it goes off, it takes forever to turn back on.

So yesterday at work, as usual, my phone was on red, but I didn't charge it. Soon, it dropped to 1%. I was in the middle of something really important, so I hurriedly connected it to a power bank, panicking and praying that it wouldn’t go off before it started charging.

Guess what? It did.

Long story short, I had to wait an extra 30 minutes before I could turn my phone back on. Frustrated by the delay, especially given how important my task was, I was upset. But at the wrong thing. It took my boss to point that out before I realized it.

I was angry that my phone went off despite my frantic efforts when I saw it at 1% (all that stress for nothing). But my boss simply said, "God will not do for you what common sense already can."

It was really that simple. Charge your phone before it gets too low and save yourself from muttering, "God, please don’t let my phone go off" while scrambling for a charger. Why be religious about something that common sense can fix?

Dearest reader, this incident had me thinking. Yes, God cares about every tiny detail of our lives, but why disturb Him over something so irrelevant?

If you can figure something out, be wise enough to do so. Do not be so over-religious that you call in the Almighty for something silly.

But then again… common sense isn’t so common, is it?
