CHRONICLES OF LADY AVA: There's Nothing Simple About Simple Harmonic Motion

In Lady Ava's words, Physics is a bastard, and there’s truly nothing simple about Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM).

Not because she hated physics, in fact, physics used to be her favorite. Once upon a time, she was celebrated as a physics genius. But at some point, physics humbled her, making her realize that all she thought she knew was fleeting, and she had overestimated her abilities.

If you noticed, I said used to, because she gave up on the subject, revealing how shallow her love for it was. SHM had always been the one physics topic that gave her relentless headaches. And honestly, the enmity between her and SHM? It was legendary.

Recently, she decided to revisit her physics basics. Motivated by the belief that changing your mindset changes your experience, Lady Ava decided to face the topic that had haunted her the most. She approached it with a fresh perspective, hoping it would now seem easier.

After two hours of intense research on SHM, she quickly understood why they had been enemies. Trust me, she still didn’t understand much. However, her efforts did reveal the practical side of the topic, beyond the dry, theoretical explanations taught in school. Yet, the full concept remained elusive.

It was curious that of all physics topics, she chose SHM. This was like a child attempting to run before learning to crawl. Not because she wasn’t smart, but because she had abandoned physics for so long. No matter how many I can do this affirmations she gave herself, it was still a steep climb.

And yes, I’ll agree with Ava, SHM really isn’t simple. Pretending it’s easy doesn’t make it so. What changing your mindset does, however, is remove biases and open you up to new perspectives.

To truly understand SHM, though, you need a solid foundation in circular motion, which itself requires an understanding of basic motion, Newton’s laws, and even projectile motion. Now imagine Ava skipping all these steps and expecting to grasp SHM it’s just not realistic.

The lesson here? The universe has a way of ensuring we follow the proper order of things. Skipping the process only makes it harder to achieve the higher levels we seek.

Dearest reader, don’t skip steps. Trust the process, and don’t expect magic.
