When Doing the Right Thing Feels Wrong

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death."
– Proverbs 14:12

I made a pretty selfless decision today, and it doesn’t feel so good. Have you ever experienced feeling down or depressed because you did the right thing? When the obvious "right" choice feels completely wrong?

It’s funny how sometimes the right doesn’t feel so good, and the good doesn’t feel so right. I believe we all know the truth deep down, we have some understanding of the difference between right and wrong. Yet, we often feel intense pressure to choose what we know is wrong and then come up with silly justifications for our actions.

We need to realize that it’s not about what we want. It doesn’t have to feel right; as long as it is right, just do it.

Dearest reader, what do you do when the right thing doesn’t feel good? How do you manage the overwhelming emotions that come with choosing selflessness when you know you'd much rather be selfish?

For me, it’s not about "what I want." It’s more of a "To what end? Does this foster the greater good?" mindset.

Like King Solomon pointed out in the verse above, it doesn’t have to feel right. Today, even while feeling awful about a significant decision I made, the words from Proverbs reassured me. They reminded me that how I feel isn’t the priority, it’s doing what is right.

And how am I able to know this? It’s thanks to my daily Proverbs group, which helps uncover the unbound, relatable wisdom of king Solomon that applies to everyday life situations.

Another day to remind you that, you’re just a DM away from joining my amazing community.
