Reflections on Growth

So, I was going through my notepad today (a habit I'm fond of) when I stumbled upon a list I wrote about a year ago. It was titled "My Impurities." As I went through it, I was amazed at how much I had grown.

The list had 14 bad traits I had identified at the time, each with a detailed explanation. I remembered my coach had asked me to write them down when we first met, with the plan to work on them as we progressed in our sessions.

Looking at the list now felt surreal. In my head, I thought, "Was this really me?" Yes, it was! It was me at the messiest, rawest, and most vulnerable state of my life. It was all shades of me!

I couldn’t help but laugh. I forwarded the list to my coach, and when we did a comparative analysis, it was clear I had made astonishing progress.

But this growth didn’t come easily, it required intentional work. Being aware of my flaws to the point of writing them down was a huge step toward intentionality. While I didn’t completely rid myself of these flaws, I learned to master them in a way that significantly reduced their negative impact.

Dearest reader, let me share two important lessons:

1. Document your growth journey. It's easy to forget how you got from point A to point B, so please learn to keep trails.

2. When you’re intentional about growth, you’ll be shocked at the progress you can make over time.
