WHY MASHAL? (3)
I have this dear friend, Onome. We attended the children’s church together when we were younger. She has a beautiful mind, and I find myself drawn to the way certain people think, see things, and express themselves, whether in words or writing.
Nomzy, as I fondly call her, is also a part of my daily Proverbs group. Thus far, she’s been consistent. Given that I was seriously ill recently, I enlisted her help to anchor the weekly review we hold every Sunday in the group.
While anchoring one of these sessions, she said something I found rather astonishing. She said, and I quote:
"In this consistency thing, let’s not only limit it to our Bible reading. Let’s try to integrate it into our daily lives. This daily reading of Proverbs shouldn’t feel like a chore you have to do every morning or whenever; it should be something you look forward to."
Personally, it struck me deeply. I’ve been questioning my reasons for creating this group for a while now. So when someone asks me about the essence of reading the book of Proverbs daily, I often struggle to provide a perfect answer. However, my insightful Nomzy gave me one.
The daily reading of Proverbs is aimed at building consistency in us. Being consistent is a big deal—try it if you think I’m joking. It’s so easy to start something after swallowing a dose of motivation (the “you can do it” kind), but to follow through every single day? Mehn! That takes hard work. My group participants can relate.
The goal is not just to build consistency in reading Proverbs daily but to transfer this consistency to every part of our lives where it’s needed. Just as we were all taught the 26 letters of the alphabet and later used them to form words and sentences, this group serves as a starting point for something greater.
Dearest reader, do you want to build consistency? Are you tired of the back-and-forth of making plans and not following through? My group offers a viable solution: not only to study God’s Word daily but to build consistency as a habit. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested. 🥳
