HEAL AND MOVE FORWARD.
"We must heal from the things that hurt us, so we do not go around bleeding on those who did not cut us."
For one, I read a lot of African literature. In my just-concluded read, Stay With Me by Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, I was moved to tears. The story of a mother showing no affection for her own child, simply because she had lost two children to the same illness, was heartbreaking. It felt demoralizing that such a young girl had to endure decades’ worth of hatred for something that was entirely beyond her control.
This is what happens when we don't heal properly. We bleed on innocent people, hurt those who have done nothing but love us.
It's my belief that we all go through at least one truly traumatizing experience that shapes us in profound ways. However, if we heal properly, we won’t make life difficult for those who genuinely care about us.
Dearest reader, please heal. Go through the process and heal. Don't sweep your pain under the carpet—it will only destroy you.
Healing starts with acknowledging that you're not okay and that you need help. Reach out. Confront your past trauma. Within that confrontation lies the key to moving forward. Without facing it, there is no true progression.
Life happens. We will inevitably experience the good, the bad, and the ugly. But none of it defines us unless we allow it to.
Shema!
