THIS THING CALLED UNHEALTHY COMPETITION.

Don't fall into the trap of competing with someone you're supposed to learn from!

You see, this habit of competing with people we should be learning from—both you and I are guilty of it. We’ve done it before, we may do it again (this write-up is to prevent that).

This behavior is often a byproduct of the motivational line, “Nobody is better than you.” When you finally encounter someone who is indeed more skilled, you might be shocked and intimidated, leading to unhealthy competition.

I recall the early days of my writing journey. There came a point when I needed to learn how to articulate clearly. My coach assigned me to a girl, Romunu Precious, to help with this. Romunu was so talented and highly regarded by my coach that, honestly, I didn’t like her at first. This feeling sparked an unnecessary desire to compete with her.

Have you ever tried competing with someone who isn’t even competing with you? It’s completely pointless. Fortunately for me, I’m drawn to excellence and brilliance, and that’s what allowed me to learn articulation from her before I eventually came to admire her.

Dearest reader, accept that there will always be someone better. When you meet those people, sit back and learn from them—don’t try to compete. Instead, tap into their wisdom!
