THE THING WITH SALVATION.

In our NBC Stage One class today at church, Pastor Kenny taught something that greatly resonated with me—something most of us often mistake.

In her words, "When you are saved, it is not your soul that is saved but your spirit; therefore, you can still sin."

I used to have this strange idea of salvation. I thought that giving your life to Christ meant you’d automatically stop doing sinful things. However, we learned that the soul (flesh) is not what’s saved, hence the need to constantly feed it with the right things so it can align with our new spirit.

The point is, I was today years old when I learned that righteousness is not rocket science—it’s a journey, a lifelong journey, and the tagline is “One step in front of the other.” It takes the grace of God to overcome sin.

Doing things that don’t reflect God will gradually fade as we grow in Christ. We are not expected to get it right all at once. It’s amusing when people mock Christians who struggle with sin, as if they forget that we’re all human. Our souls have lived in sin for years before salvation, and we can still be prone to mistakes and missteps, even though we are not of the world.

Dearest reader, we must begin to see salvation as a walk with God toward perfection—step by step. Over time, you will become repugnant to your sinful nature.
