THE ACTION AND THE PERSON.
Oftentimes, we tend to write people off based on something they did. Though it is said that one's habitual actions define who they are, we must take note of the word "habitual."
Am I a bad person because I did a bad thing? Does a mistake define who I am?
Of course not. Like it or not, there are days when we act out of character. Days when our actions won’t align with who we truly are, but that doesn't make us evil.
A friend was explaining something another friend we both know did to him. It was not cool at all. In fact, it was cruel, and if not for the proof, I wouldn’t have believed the person in question was capable of such a thing.
But I can't view him in that light, regardless of the gravity of his actions, because I know him to an extent. So, I helped the upset friend understand that, yes, he did a bad thing, but he is not a bad person.
Dear reader, life happens. I’m pretty sure the offender wasn’t even aware of how deeply he had wronged the offendee(if that's a word, lol).
The action is not always the person. We must come to terms with the idea that a good person can do a bad thing, and an evil person can do a good thing. A person’s personality is superior to their actions, just as intentions are superior to actions.
