BEYOND ORDINARY STANDARDS

"If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." — Sir Isaac Newton

---

You see, my friend Prayer has always loved Sir Isaac Newton, but I never understood her love for someone who died long before she came into existence. Anyway, what do they say about the company we keep?

Since Prayer is dear to my heart, I had to put myself in a position to try seeing this person through her eyes. That's all it took to get hooked. You could say I became more obsessed than the person who introduced me.

However, that’s not what today’s write-up is about. Let’s get to business, shall we?

---

The first time I came across the above quote, it made me question myself. Whose shoulders do I have access to stand on and see further than my peers?

We all know the Biblical character Daniel was ten times better than all his peers, but it didn’t just happen, did it? He had God’s guidance. Now, the role of a guide is no ordinary position.

A guide is a source—someone who equips you to see as they have seen, or even better. Daniel had an excellent spirit, which made him surpass ordinary standards, and this was because he submitted to a source.

Who are the giants in your life? Besides God being our ultimate source, do you have people who would lay down their lives for you? Empowering you to do better, see more clearly, and live more rightly than they have? That’s the essence of having guides. And, of course, it comes with a price—the willingness to let go of your own will.

To effectively stand on the shoulders of a giant, you must surrender your will and trust completely, or you’ll fall off.

Dearest reader, we can’t do life alone. As a common African proverb says, "What an old man sees while sitting, a youngster won’t see even if he climbs the highest iroko tree." Now, imagine the youngster being trained by this old man to see just as well or better. Surely, he would surpass ordinary standards.
