This Thing Called Lifestyle.
I was having a conversation with a friend today. She was at a crossroads that I had been at before, and as I explained how the system works to her, I noticed a familiar form of confusion.
Being at a crossroads can be very frustrating because everyone has an opinion; everyone is saying something. You tend to feel like they don't get it because they aren't the ones experiencing it firsthand.
I was explaining how lifestyle triumphs over performance—something I had written about yesterday. But through our conversation, I gained even more insight into the concept. It's funny how, as humans, we tend to want to do the extraordinary, to go above and beyond, without first doing the ordinary and possible.
One illusion we live with is wanting to change our performance without changing our lifestyle. Lifestyle is everything. If what you're doing isn't embedded in your lifestyle, it's just surface-level, and when the winds of life blow, it won't stand.
Dearest reader, the thing with lifestyle is that it's not forced. When your performance isn't founded on a solid lifestyle, it will soon crumble. Performance without lifestyle is like forcing yourself to do what's necessary only because of what you hope to achieve, whereas lifestyle is about being and doing from a place of authenticity.
Lifestyle can be likened to the ease of breathing in and out.
