"It's Her Spec, Not Yours"
Oh Chim, I thought I had heard it all until I eavesdropped on a lady's conversation today. I know it's wrong to listen in on others' conversations, but it's become a habit—one that goes hand-in-hand with my imaginary stories about what their lives might be like.
Anyway, this lady was on a call, rejecting a guy because he wasn't a "yahoo boy." She said, and I quote, "Na yahoo boy I dey date." The person I was walking with was equally shocked, as she had also overheard the conversation.
Not to sound too judgmental—everyone has their preferences. As unbelievable as her statement seemed to me and my companion, I knew she wasn’t crazy for having that as her spec. Because, if that lady were to sit you down and explain her reasons, and if you allowed yourself to fit in her shoes for a moment, you'd come to understand why that's her preference.
"It's her spec, not yours," I told my companion. We often have this annoying tendency to seem self-righteous, as though just because something doesn't apply to us, it invalidates its relevance to others.
Dearest reader, let's not pass judgment on people based on what feels unique to our own experiences, because, like it or not, we don't all share the same reality.
