DO WE REALLY WANT THE TRUTH?

Am i confident in my skin?
Yes, I am. But I fear criticism like the proverbial blind man fears darkness. I’m terrified of prying eyes. I feel that if I let you see my flaws, you'd crush my bone, and get high on my faults.

Yet, someday we’ll learn to accept all we are, won’t we?

Anyway, let’s talk about something I find hypocritical.

****

I often feel that when people ask for advice, they already have their minds made up. They aren’t really seeking the best guidance, but merely validation of their opinion.

At the end of the day, "Na wetin dey my mind I go do" – they’ll stick with what they want, regardless of your advice.

Now, I know a guy (name withheld, let's call him Prayer). Prayer had been in a relationship for over 10 years with his girlfriend. After moving to a new city, he met someone new—someone more exciting, more beautiful, and fresh.

What started out as something casual with this new girl turned into a serious consideration. He was planning life with his girlfriend of 10 years, but suddenly, the idea of starting a new adventure with this fresh silhouette seemed like an awfully nice option.

Prayer was older, but he always confided in me. When he brought this dilemma to me—torn between the two girls—I knew what was right: stay with the girl he had been with for over 10 years. But I also knew what he truly wanted.

Though he asked for my advice, I knew he would choose the new girl ten times over the long-term girlfriend. So, I simply told him what he wanted to hear, and he thanked me.

It made me wonder if things would have turned out differently if I had advised him otherwise. Do people really seek advice? Or do they just want their opinions validated?

Dearest reader, what do you think?

Bear in mind that, people always know what they want!
