WHO ARE YOU?

"My essence isn't defined by my experience."

We often equate who we are with what we do and what we've experienced. This approach to defining ourselves is flawed because it doesn't truly capture our essence.

Beyond what we do or what we've experienced, we are people, right?

For instance, if I do A and assume the identity of A, what happens when I can no longer do A? How would I feel valid and valued? Who am I then?

This is where the error lies. Your person existed long before your experiences or what you do. When you define yourself by these things, you risk falling into an unending loop of identity crises.

What you do and what you experience changes over time, so if your identity is based on something that isn't constant, you'll never fully be able to define yourself.

Dearest reader, who are you? Aside from your profession and what you do, taking away all you've experienced and what people say you are, would you have trouble answering that question?
