PERSONALITY OVER PERFORMANCE.

My coach would say the funny thing about writing is that if you're not doing well in your personal life, you'll struggle with it. The trick to becoming a better writer is to first become a better person—ironic, right?

Imagine my surprise when the first tasks I received at the start of my writing journey with my coach was focused on my personal growth. Two years down this road, I’ve never truly been told the secret of writing, yet whenever I seem to be going south, my coach points to a loose end in my life that’s responsible.

I guess this thing called writing works differently for different folks, but one thing is certain: writing comes from within. Anyone can write, but when their being is aligned, it all just flows naturally.

By “naturally,” I don’t mean effortlessly. Nothing happens without the necessary conscious effort, and building your person (someone from whom whatever you want flows) takes a lot of effort, as it is a tough journey.

In the words of Mr. Pojo, "To get a reward, you must become the person that deserves the reward."

Dearest reader, in the pursuit of the things we want, we must first "become"! We must first take on the identity of a person who deserves the things we want, and from there, what we desperately seek will then be drawn to us.

Don't try to become better at something without trying to fix the root cause from which it all springs—your person.
