Consistency Helps Itself.

My coach does this crazy thing where if you quit and come back, he'll accept you willingly, but you'll have to start from the very beginning again. Imagine getting to SS3, for example, and then failing and being taken back to JSS1 to start all over. Crazy, right?

If you must learn, he'll gladly make sure you repeat a class over and over again. I find this annoying most times, but I understand the intent behind it.

The thing with being consistent is that it helps itself. I don't feel like writing most days; the thought of putting together a worthy piece can be bothersome. But when I look back, I know I can't go back to Day 1.

It's funny how the thought of starting over can keep one in line. I thought it was just me, until a friend of mine confirmed it as well. She's been staying off a particular addiction for a while, going back and forth, but has finally been clean for a couple of months.

In our conversation, she said, "Do you know what keeps me going? It's the thought of having to count Day 1 of being clean, after coming this far."

Consistency helps itself in the "We've started, so we might as well finish" kind of way. Nobody likes to start all over; it's tragic, in fact, to start again.

Dearest reader, every now and then, when you feel the urge to give up, look back and remind yourself of how far you've come. In the words of Olive Lane, "You've come too far to give up now." Being consistent is a necessary ingredient for being consistent because it helps itself.
