WHAT DO YOU SHEMA?
Faith comes by hearing. What do you listen to?
According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
In Hebrew, to hear is to Shema, and it's far beyond mere listening; it entails obeying and taking action. To have truly heard, you must respond by taking action. Therefore, we can say that whatever we habitually listen to and respond to leads us to believe strongly despite current reality that may not fit.
Looking at the word faith from this perspective makes it seem less religious. We all believe in things unseen in different ways, and it's a result of Shema (that is, having heard and taking actions that are in line with it).
So, in a world where hearing (Shema) leads to faith (believing in the unseen), we must be mindful of what we listen to. What we listen to over time becomes our truth.
For people like myself who watch lots of K-dramas that leave us with a fractured impression of what love entails, we might be needing deliverance (Lol), because it may result in hoping for or believing strongly in a superficial love. Now, this is an example of faith.
Dearest reader, as it was wisely said, "The eyes and the ears are windows into the soul." If so, what do you let into your soul?
