MEASURING GROWTH.

"You don't measure growth with your target; you measure growth with previous performance," Mr. Paul.

Today was my 18th birthday, and I received many "How does it feel to be an adult?" questions. Honestly, it didn't feel any different. Growing up, I had a list of things I wanted to accomplish before turning 18, ranging from being financially stable to attaining a certain level of success, and so on.

If I were to go by that standard, I'd see myself as a failure at the moment. I had goals—targets as big as the sun—and I'm not even sure I was able to scrape the surface of these goals.

But, in comparison to who I used to be, growth is evident. We often forget the journey thus far as we look intensely at the goal high above. It may not be all I had envisioned, but it's better than it used to be.

I've come to see that when we measure growth or success by target performance, we are swallowed whole by depression because life never goes as planned. Additionally, we lose track of all the unexpected good things that came along.

Dearest reader, regardless of how little it is, as long as today is 1% better than yesterday, then it's growth. Don't let anybody pressure you!
