PREFERED REALITY OVER CURRENT REALITY.

"When you see a man who never complains, there's a reason; they have built a preferred reality that makes their current situation seem insignificant," said Mr. Pojo.

I often say that we Nigerians are even worse than the children of Israel when it comes to complaining. The truth is, complaining is human nature; there’s an innate tendency to express displeasure at anything that doesn’t sit well with us.

It can be really annoying. I hate it when someone constantly complains to me—it's grating. Yet, I do it too. Personally, I can always find something to complain about, and it’s just not pleasant.

There will always be something out of place, something infuriating enough to provoke complaints or murmurs. Despite this, it takes a certain kind of person to step out of their existing reality and envision a preferred reality that renders their current troubles insignificant. That’s when they won’t complain, even in situations where others would have cried a river.

Dearest reader, this habit of complaining that we both share—it doesn’t do us any good. However, I’ve come to understand that if we can create a vision of our preferred reality, the current storms will seem like necessary evils or stepping stones toward it.

This mindset can foster gratitude and reduce our complaints.
