ABSENCE.

Hey there!

Today hammered home a lesson I've always held dear. You see, as humans, we only ever appreciate a thing in its absence. We are grateful for what we are privileged to have when we suffer its absence.

As my boss and I stepped out of the air-conditioned office into the now drizzling rain and waited for a motorcycle, I couldn't help but wish his car had not broken down today. If things were different, we would have been where we needed to be without waiting for the rain to subside.

Over time, we trivialize everything we have access to. Being dropped at home by my boss whenever it rained was so common, I didn't see it as much of a big deal anymore.

I have a friend whose mom would always complain about her being lazy and not doing the house chores properly, up until she got admitted to university. When she came home for a break a few weeks back, her mom kept praising her because now she could truly see how well she cleaned the house.

Dearest reader, try not to only appreciate things in their absence. Don't be like my friend's mom or myself—the little things are big deals! At times, absence is necessary, so when you're not appreciated, learn to walk away.
