YOU NEVER KNOW TILL YOU ASK.
There's this friend I enjoy spending my Sundays with. We met at the stadium and have long discussions about poetry and music. While I write blank verse, he hides behind elaborate metaphors in his rhythmic poems.
Each time we meet, he has a new poem to show off, and he mockingly watches my head ache as I attempt to decode his verses. Today, as I read and tried to decipher his latest poem, I finally gave up.
So, he took his time to explain every single stanza to me, and I was blown away. Poetry is beautiful, and it's even more beautiful when you mask your thoughts in metaphors.
His explanation of the poem was vastly different from what I had thought when I first read it, reminding me of a lesson I once learned—never assume you know what a person means, because things are hardly the way they same to you.
Dear reader, never assume you know; instead, seek to understand exactly what is meant from the source. Trust me, it will save you a lot of heartache.
Merry Sunday, y'all ♥️
